In the past few weeks the Employment Services Division of the Department of Social Protection has  hosted recruitment fairs around the country, on October 1st they will be in Cork. The recruitment fair takes place in the  Millennium Hall, City Hall. The event will run from  10am-4pmimage

Employers in growing enterprise sectors who are seeking to fill employment positions will be in attendance at the fairs and will be interested in meeting you. They will each have their own stand  for recruitment interviews.

In addition, career advice will available for delegates, as well as guidance and advice on social protection queries.

I have met so many people who are desperate to get their career going, so why not go along and grab this opportunity.

Here are some tips to help you make the most of the Recruitment Fair

  1. Bring a number of copies of your  up to date CV
  2. Bring a pen and a notebook
  3. Dress for the job you want
  4. Research the companies and connect their activities to your recent study or ability
  5. Expect a mini interview and don’t panic. It may mean they are really interested in you
  6. Prepare an elevator pitch, describing who you are and what you can offer them
  7. Sell yourself and keep it relevant
  8. Don’t talk your self out of a job;  move on if others are queuing behind you
  9. Note names and emails of contacts made. You may get a follow up phone call. It would be embarrassing to admit you have forgotten who they are.

There will also be some information on Internships and other government schemes to help jobseekers.

This event may not be for you but please share it with other graduates of parents who are searching for a way to connect with employers.
